Feds Pick Up Arnold Spots
BOSTON--Seven youth-oriented anti-smoking commercials created by Arnold Communications here for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health have been chosen by the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy to air nationwide as public service announcements starting Dec. 15. Though the ads will run as PSAs, the program is estimated to be worth $16 million in paid media. Among the spots are an execution featuring Pam Laffin, who began smoking at age 10 and had a lung removed at age 24 because she developed emphysema, as well as a Saturday Night Fever parody with an unhip smoker imitating John Travolta. The ONDCP will also air two commercials created by Riester-Robb in Phoenix for Arizona's tobacco control program.
Ingalls Promotes Rosenberg
BOSTON--Ingalls Advertising last week tapped James Rosenberg to succeed Diana Scott as managing director of Ingalls One to One Marketing. The direct marketing division will be managed by Rosenberg, formerly group account director, and executive creative director Robert Davis, according to Ingalls chairman Bink Garrison. Scott and Davis had worked as a team for almost four years. The unit has grown more than 20 percent a year for the last three years, Garrison said. Ingalls, which two weeks ago laid off at least a dozen staffers, never considered looking outside for Scott's replacement, he added. Clients at Ingalls One to One include Raytheon Co. and John Hancock Financial Services' marketplace division. Scott resigned from the Boston shop earlier this month to pursue a top marketing job at Hancock.
Hill, Holliday Taps Malone's Top Aide
BOSTON--Eric Fehrnstrom, assistant treasurer and principal spokesperson for outgoing Bay State treasurer and failed gubernatorial candidate Joe Malone, in January will join Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston as vice president of corporate communications. The position had been vacant. Before its budget was severely slashed in the mid-1990s, the ad account of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, managed by Malone's office, had been handled by Hill, Holliday.
General Interactive Assists in CK Campaign
BOSTON--General Interactive in Cambridge, Mass., has made possible the e-mail portion of a new ad campaign launched last week for Calvin Klein Cosmetics Co.'s CK One fragrance. The campaign--created by the New York office of Wieden & Kennedy and CRK Advertising, Calvin Klein's in-house agency--features the e-mail addresses of the models that appear in the ads. E-mail sent to the models will be managed and sorted by a software program created by General Interactive which helps leading companies, including Microsoft and Disney, manage inbound and outbound e-mail programs.
