Ingalls Tapped for New TJX Chain
BOSTON--Ingalls Advertising here has been selected by TJX Cos. in Framingham, Mass., to handle advertising for A.J. Wright, a soon-to-open chain of apparel and home furnishing stores targeting lower-income consumers, according to an Ingalls representative. The first four A.J. Wright stores are set to open this fall in Brockton, Malden, Somerville and Worcester, Mass. Ingalls already handles TJX's T.J. Maxx clothing store chain. Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston handles advertising for TJX's Marshalls stores. Client officials did not return calls by press time.
Vogt/Wein Launches Mystic
BOSTON--Vogt/Wein in Westport, Conn., has unveiled a campaign for Mystic Seaport that aims to reinforce the 69-year-old educational institution's position as "The museum of America and the sea." Radio spots running in the New York market feature Mystic Seaport staff telling incredible but true tales of the sea. Print executions are breaking in The New York Times, Newsday and elsewhere.
Fleming & Roskelly Sails Away With a Pair
BOSTON--Fleming & Roskelly in Newport, R.I., will develop advertising and collateral materials for UK Sailmakers and Fiberspar. Based in New York, UK Sailmakers is one of the world's largest producers of boating sails. Fleming & Roskelly this summer will break a print effort for the client in publications such as Sail and Sailing. Fiberspar in West Wareham, Mass., is a leading manufacturer of carbon fiber masts and booms for wind surfers.
Modem Media, Poppe Tyson to Merge
BOSTON--Modem Media and Poppe Tyson, both units of True North Communications, have announced that they intend to merge operations. The new entity, Modem Media.Poppe Tyson, will be located in Westport, Conn. Modem Media co-founder G.M. O'Donnell will serve as chairman and chief executive. Kevin Clark, chairman and chief executive officer of Poppe Tyson, will become vice chairman. All told, the combined entity will have more than 375 staffers. Founded in 1987, Modem Media was a pioneer in the online marketing arena. Its client list includes 3Com, AT&T, Delta Air Lines and J.C. Penney. Established in 1924, Poppe Tyson works for Johnson & Johnson, Kodak and Sony.
Core Resigns Winchester Ammo
BOSTON--Core in St. Louis has resigned Olin Corp.'s Winchester ammunition account. Officials of the Stamford, Conn.-based client could not be reached for comment by press time. Billings were less than $1 million.
