NationsBank, BofA Cut Contenders DALLAS--The review for the consolidated $80-100 million account of NationsBank and Bank of America was narrowed to 8-10 shops last week, sources said, from at least 20 contacted agencies. NationsBank incumbent Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas, is advancing, along with Bozell Worldwide, Lowe & Partners/SMS and Saatchi & Saatchi, all New York. It was not clear at press time if BofA creative and print media buying incumbent Deutsch, New York and Marina del Rey, Calif., will advance. GSD&M, Austin, Texas, incumbent broadcast media agency for BofA, was cut. Chemistry visits are being scheduled, with another cut to three or four finalists expected in September. Trex Co. Trims Review to 3 Finalists BOSTON--Trex Co., Winchester, Va., has selected The Richards Group in Dallas, Campbell-Ewald of Warren, Mich., and Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, as finalists for its $3-5 million account, said Judy Neer, an official at Pile and Co., Boston, which is overseeing the review. Eliminated from contention were Mullen, Wenham, Mass.; HBRA & Partners, New York; and Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis. There is no incumbent. The three finalists will make presentations in early September. A decision is expected shortly thereafter. McCann Picks Up Regional Popeyes Chores DALLAS--McCann-Erickson Southwest in Houston was selected by Atlanta-based Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits to market its Houston and East Texas restaurants, the agency said last week. Besting Houston rival Black Rogers Sullivan Goodnight and Popeyes roster shop Adamson Advertising in St. Louis, McCann was assigned duties for 79 company and franchisee-owned stores. Billings are estimated at $2 million annually. Incumbent Love Advertising, Houston, did not defend. Stone & Ward Bows Little Rock Visitor Ads DALLAS--Stone & Ward, Little Rock, Ark., has launched six 30-second TV spots for the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau. The music video-style ads feature local citizens performing three versions of a "Big on Little Rock" song created for the campaign. Three taglines ("Get rocking," "Get rolling" and "Get swinging") are used to match the musical styles. The campaign also includes outdoor and transit executions. Pizza Hut Files Federal Suit Against Rival DALLAS--Pizza Hut last week filed a federal lawsuit here against Louisville, Ky.-based Papa John's International, alleging the chain is using deceptive advertising. In a statement, Pizza Hut president Mike Rawlings said Papa John's ads use "false and misleading claims about their ingredients and pizza." Papa John's lead advertising agency is Fricks/Firestone in Atlanta. The company employs Levenson & Hill in Dallas for regional work in Texas. Papa John's representative Chris Sternberg said the company believes the suit is frivolous and will file a response to have it dismissed.
