- Hill, Holliday Reaches Short List for H&R Block CHICAGO--H&R Block has cut to three the list of contenders for its $100 million account. Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston; Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis; and DDB, Chicago and San Francisco, are scheduled to make presentations to the Kansas City, Mo., tax preparation service next month. New York shops Lowe Lintas & Partners and Publicis, and The Richards Group in Dallas were eliminated. The client in April split with Young & Rubicam, Chicago, and Media Edge, New York. - Staples.com Unveils TV From Cliff Freeman BOSTON--Staples.com launched a new marketing campaign with the goal of driving small business traffic to its Web site, building customer loyalty and boosting online sales. Created by Staples' in-house agency with Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, the 30-second TV spot features a man sitting behind a desk, talking about how office supplies will be bought over the Internet in the future. The tag: "You don't have to run out" is retained. - Pagano Sinks Its Teeth Into Broadband Campaign BOSTON--Digital Broadband Communications last week launched its first branding campaign created by Pagano Schenck & Kay tagged "Do amazing things." The estimated annual budget is $8-10 million. One spot titled "Vampire" depicts vampire hunters destroying a member of the undead by e-mailing him a sunrise. The effort targets business telecommuters throughout the Northeast, with ads initially appearing in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. PS&K also developed newspaper and magazine ads for the Boston company, showing large files being sent through a DSL line. - Mascola Launches Caffeine Consultancy BOSTON--Mascola Advertising has launched an online consulting division called Caffeine led by president Bill Mulligan, formerly director of licensing at brand management company Refac, Southport, Conn., Caffeine, New Haven, Conn., will specialize in developing and implementing traffic and revenue-generating marketing initiatives and use Mascola's creative services team for Web design and Web site development. - Newswire Roundup BOSTON--Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos here named Gayle Nyre as senior vice president for new business development.
