"Freeman Weighs Arnold's Latest Offer
BOSTON-Negotiations are still alive between the two biggest winners at last week's International Andy Awards. According to sources, Cliff Freeman and Partners in New York is considering a new buyout offer from Boston-based Arnold Communications, owned by Snyder Communications in Bethesda, Md. "The ball is in Cliff's court right now," a source said of agency chairman Cliff Freeman. The two shops were close to an agreement last month [Adweek, March 29] when Freeman abruptly lost the $25 million Ameritech account, thereby affecting terms of the deal, according to sources. Neither Cliff Freeman nor Arnold chairman Ed Eskandarian could be reached for comment.
"Hill, Holliday Surfaces in Auto Group Pitch
BOSTON-Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos here has been selected as a finalist in the review for the $11 million advertising account of the California State Automobile Association, according to sources. Also in the hunt for the assignment, consisting mainly of print and radio ads with a strong direct response element, are incumbent Bozell in Seattle, Suissa Miller in Los Angeles and Highway One and Response Marketing, both in San Francisco, sources said. The shops are vying for the group's Northern California, Nevada and Utah territories. Consulting firm Select Resources International in Los Angeles is overseeing the review. The group's lead agency, TBWA/Chiat Day in Los Angeles, is not pitching, and its position on the brand assignment is not in jeopardy.
"Higgins Digs Brigham's Ice Cream
BOSTON-Higgins Creative, a Danvers, Mass., boutique launched last month by Joe Higgins, has launched a billboard, radio and point-of-purchase campaign for Brigham's Ice Cream. Executions promoting the company's "Big Dig" flavor play off the like-named construction project in Boston, using the headline, "You'd get around the big dig faster with a spoon." A board in Hartford, Conn., near the site for the proposed Patriots football facility reads: "At least you won't have to build a stadium to get this New England favorite." Higgins, a former senior creative staffer at Wallwork Curry Sandler in Boston and several other shops, handled art direction and copy chores.
