Hot Shop Adds Former Burnett Exec To Senior Ranks
BOSTON--In an ongoing effort to strengthen its management team, Harpell/Martins & Co. has named onetime Leo Burnett executive Bill Beardslee director of client services.
Looking to join a midsized agency where he could make an impact, Beardslee sought a post in Greater Boston to be near his wife, Michele, who just enrolled at Harvard Law School.
Beardslee, who reports to agency president Pat Harpell, oversees the Maynard, Mass., shop's eight-person account service staff. Beardslee does not receive equity in the agency, which recently surpassed the $60 million billings plateau.
From 1987 to 1995, Beardslee held various account management posts at Leo Burnett in Chicago, ending his career there as management supervisor and senior account executive responsible for national TV, print, direct and radio advertising for McDonald's. He also served on the Phillip Morris and Kraft Foods accounts.
After leaving Burnett, Beardslee spent two years developing a business plan and securing funding for a chain of take-out restaurants that never got off the ground. Most recently, he was a director of the Alexander Group in San Francisco, an executive search firm.
Beardslee, who will serve as a resource for all of Harpell/Martins' accounts, plans to take an active role in new-business development. He believes his experience on consumer brands and entrepreneurial background will serve him well at his new agency.
Management "wants to get a bit more consumer focused in everything we do," he said. "Packaged-goods principles can be applied to the technology client base" in terms of developing brand identities rather than focusing on specific product attributes, he said.
