ATLANTA The American Cancer Society said it has hired Andy Goldsmith as managing director of creative and brand strategy.
Goldsmith, 44, will manage all of the organization's advertising functions in the newly created position. He reports to Greg Donaldson, vice president of corporate communications for the Atlanta-based ACS.
Previously, Goldsmith owned and operated Andy Goldsmith Consulting in Atlanta. ACS was a client of his shop for the past 18 months. Goldsmith said he closed the shop after joining ACS. He also is president of Creativity Atlanta, the city's advertising club.
Before opening his shop, Goldsmith was director of account management for independent Atlanta agency T.G. Madison, which produces advertising for ACS. He also has worked as account executive for the former HutchesonShutze Advertising and account supervisor for The Morrison Agency, both in Atlanta. He holds a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary and an MBA from Georgia State University.
Most recently, Goldsmith managed media planning and placement for the society's smoking cessation campaign that ran last month. The ACS telephone-counseling program received a record number of calls during the campaign. He will direct the launch of a colon cancer awareness campaign scheduled to begin later this month.
"Andy holds a long, successful history with the society in its advertising and brand position," Donaldson said. "A critical player on the agency side in the initial development of the society's first-ever nationwide paid advertising campaign, he's been providing our organization strategic communications and marketing counsel ever since."
