Freestyle Joins Carat Fold

BOSTON Carat Interactive said it has acquired Freestyle Interactive. Aegis Group's Carat Interactive, based here, did not reveal terms of the deal for Freestyle, an independent agency in San Francisco.

Freestyle employs about 30 people and has worked for brands including Microsoft and Showtime. That name will now cease to exist and Freestyle will be fused into Carat Interactive's existing S.F. operations.

Toby Gabriner and Karim Sanjabi, respectively president,COO and CEO of Freestyle, now join Carat Interactive. Gabriner's title is EVP, managing director; Sanjabi becomes EVP, creative & technology. Both report to Sarah Fay, agency president.

Paul Santello, who had run Carat's S.F. office, left the shop for a post with the Walt Disney Co. before the Freestyle deal was completed, Fay said.

The acquisition is intended to help Carat Interactive expand its digital marketing expertise and "drive top-line revenue," she added.

Carat Interactive employs about 200 staffers nationwide, working for clients such as BEA Systems, Palm and TiVo.
