From the land of Barry Goldwater comes a little Richard Nixon humor.
Phoenix agency Moses Anshell, which recently picked up the brand development and creative account of local restaurant/bar Nixon's, has crafted a pair of print and outdoor executions that poke fun at the only U.S. president to resign from office.
"Portions big enough for Deep Throat," reads one ad, alluding to the anonymous source that fed Watergate scandal tips to Washington Post reporters.
A second ad reads, "Politicos, paranoids and plumbers welcome." The words are sandwiched by two forks whose tines are bent to form peace signs, mimicking one of the late president's pet gestures.
Agency creative director/president Louie Moses said other ideas that could surface in the future include a silhouette of Tricky Dicky flashing the peace signs with the headline "Four more beers."
The agency is at work on TV executions. Moses said Nixon's owner Phil Maglino plans to expand his Nixon-themed chain, which he likens to British pubs where pint-pounding patrons regularly kick around political issues.
