CHICAGO The Florida Attorney General’s office is overseeing a search for a consultant to handle a review for a $30 million sport utility vehicle safety campaign, attorney Brad Barbin of the office said.

The money comes from a $51.5 million settlement between Ford Motor Co. and 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The states charged that Ford misled consumers about the safe use of SUVS.

Applications from interested consultants are due this week. The ensuing review is expected to result in an agency selection by August, with the campaign to run in the fall.

Consultants and agencies with ties to the auto industry won’t be eligible.
