FCB Gets a Foot in the Games' Door in Sydney

SYDNEY - Controversy erupted here following the successful bid by Sydney to host the 2000 Olympic Games when Foote, Cone & Belding/Sydney signed up three members of the organizing committee for the Games to be consultants to FCB on strategy and business planning. Industry speculation pointed to the move as an attempt by FCB to get a foot in the door for the future advertising account from the organizing committee, which could be worth up to $27 million over four years. However, under pressure last week, FCB Australia chairman Geoff Wild vowed that neither FCB nor its Mojo arm would pitch the account if that would embarrass the three individuals - one of whom is former New South Wales Premier Nick Greiner.
