Soft drinks Faygo Redpop and Rock & Rye are as much Detroit institutions as the horseless carriage.

This year, Motown legend Faygo Beverages celebrates its 90th anniversary with a retrospective commercial incorporating award-winning spots from W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich., which had the account during the 1970s and 1980s.

D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Troy, Mich., handles Faygo’s public relations and compiled the anniversary spot, which includes past footage from the ‘Faygo the Kid’ and ‘Faygo Boat Song’ spots.

Baby boomers who grew up in the city may remember the lyrics to the Faygo jingle: ‘Remember when you were a kid? Well part of you still is, and that ‘s why we make Faygo.’

To celebrate the 90th anniversary and unveil the commercial, the Detroit-based beverage maker will host a lunch at a gourmet restaurant where Faygo will dominate the menu.
