Brent Hodgins, former director of marketing for TBWA\Chiat\Day, has joined MARC USA as svp, director of client services, a newly created post.
Hodgins, 33, oversees the seven-employee account management de partment, and starts by evaluating the management of the New York shop's Bear, Stearns & Co. and Frederick Wildman and Sons accounts. He will also help develop new business.
At TBWA\C\D in New York, Hodgins worked with CEO Carl Johnson to market the shop to potential clients and the media. Prior to that, he was director of interactive integration there. He began at TBWA\C\D as an account supervisor two years ago.
"I always had a side of me that was an entrepreneurial side," said Hodgins, on his decision to move from a shop with 260 people to one with just 30. He added that he wanted to help president and co-creative director Bob Needleman build the New York agency to a "flagship-level presence" for Pittsburgh-based MARC USA.
"What I liked about Brent's thinking was his ability to look at adver tising as a brand, not as an individual ... ad," said Needleman, to whom Hodgins reports. Hodgins' experience with packaged goods-before TBWA\ C\D, he worked on Kellogg's at Leo Burnett in Toronto and Johnson & Johnson at McCann-Erickson in New York-also played a role in his hiring.
MARC USA has billings of more than $680 million and 500 staffers. The New York office claims billings of $40 million; its other clients include Fiji Water and Rheingold Brewing Co.
