CHICAGO Bill Cimino, executive creative director of Foote Cone & Belding's Southern California office, is leaving the shop after less than a year, sources said.
Cimino joined the Interpublic Group shop in Irvine, Calif., in July 2003 from Omnicom Group's DDB in Chicago, where he spent 10 years. At FCB, he shared leadership duties at the office with president Jon Tracosas, who joined in November. Sources said his replacement has not been named.
An FCB representative could not immediately be reached for comment, nor could Cimino. Reached early last week, however, Cimino denied he had any immediate plans to leave.
Cimino had been the shop's third ecd in as many years. The position had been held previously by Holland Henton, who was at FCB for roughly a year before forming a shop called Black Lab in Santa Monica, Calif. Prior to that, the post was held by Scott Montgomery, who departed in June 2001 after more than 20 years and is now evp and ecd at O'Leary and Partners in Irvine, Calif.
Sources said Cimino was likely to return to DDB in Chicago, but that could not be immediately confirmed. During his first stint at DDB, Cimino's work included the "Great American Heroes" campaign for Bud Light.
