Ex-BBDO Atlanta Exec Opens Palma Group

ATLANTA Michael Palma, most recently director of business development at BBDO here, opened The Palma Group today.

The new company will provide business development consulting and recruiting services for advertising agencies. It opened in midtown Atlanta with four people, and Palma said he is looking for several more employees.

The firm contains two divisions: Creative Search and Rainmaker. Creative Search provides headhunter services, and Rainmaker provides new business development consulting.

Palma first established Creative Search in 1989 and helped place creative directors and other senior talent at shops including Havas' McKinney + Silver in Durham, N.C., MDC Partners' Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, Omnicom Group's GSD&M in Austin, Texas, and independent WestWayne in Atlanta. He closed the company when he accepted his first agency job at Cole Henderson Drake in Atlanta in 2002, where he was a partner and director of marketing. He later joined the former Bayless/Cronin in Atlanta and spent two years at Omnicom's BBDO in Atlanta.

He describes his new venture as "agency growth partners." His clients include six shops, mostly in the Southeast. He declined to identify the clients.

"I missed having my own business," Palma, 47, said.
