Cliff Freeman, the 22-time Pencil winner, opened the 30th anniversary One Show celebration in New York last Wednesday by poking fun at his own work over the years. "I'm still trying to figure out why we had an 84-year-old woman baring her breasts" for Midas, he told the crowd, and "how we got sued by one of America's most beloved characters"—Yankee legend Yogi Berra, who sued TBS over Sex and the City ads from Cliff Freeman that used the word Yogasm. Ad legends Amil Gargano, Ralph Ammirati and Phyllis Robinson were among the attendees. ... Secret Weapon Marketing in Santa Monica, Calif., was set to celebrate its 10-year anniversary with client Jack in the Box on Saturday night with a no-expenses-spared soiree at the minimalist-chic The Standard hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Some 200 close friends and clients were expected at the rooftop event, hosted by Dick Sittig, agency founder and creative director and also the voice of fictional fast-food CEO Jack in the Jack in the Box commercials. ... At McDonald's annual shareholder meeting last week, DDB got some unexpected praise for its recent Fruit & Walnut Salad ads. As executives opened the floor to comments and questions, one Martin Glotzer, described by an observer as a "professional annual-meeting attendee," displayed one of the introductory print ads, which unfolds into a giant product shot with coupons, and asked who did it and if it "could win a Clio."
