The theme of Thursday’s VCU Adcenter fundraiser was creative partners. Part roast, part toast, the event, organized by VCU’s Rick Boyko and held at Gotham Hall in New York, was nostalgic and often profane, albeit in jest. As emcee Mike Hughes of The Martin Agency pointed out, the featured partners—Andy Berlin and Jeff Goodby, Dan Wieden and David Kennedy, Lee Clow and Steve Hayden—hadn’t worked together in years, but the bonds were still strong. The long-retired Kennedy rolled a video that spoofed Wieden’s “wealth and lust for power” in the form of expensive cars and houses.
