NEW YORK — Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart: Indecision 2000” and Fox’s “Malcolm in the Middle” were among the 34 programs honored with Peabody Awards on Thursday morning.

Linwood Boomer, creator of Regency Television’s “Malcolm,” said the news came as a complete surprise to him. “It’s such a highfalutin award, and our show is such a goofball show,” Boomer said. “I’m stunned and, frankly, a little appalled.” Winning for the second straight year were HBO’s “The Sopranos” and NBC’s “The West Wing.”
