NEW YORK — Coming soon to a Starbucks near you: Coffee, tea and wireless Internet access.

Personal-computer maker Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ) is teaming up with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) to create high-speed Internet access for Starbucks locations across North America.

Compaq, which Tuesday announced a five-year pact with the popular coffee chain, will be the preferred information-technology infrastructure provider for Starbucks’ retail stores and its corporate headquarters.

In a conference call to discuss the deal, Compaq Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Capellas said teaming up with Starbucks will give the PC maker a “brand extension” as well as a strong customer relationship with Starbucks.
