NEW YORK -- Cliff Freeman and Partners has been given an assignment from Value City Department Stores, the client said. The Columbus, Ohio-based client owns such discount department-store brands as Value City, Schottenstein Stores, DSW Shoe Warehouse, and Filene's Basement.
In a statement, Charles Rath, CMO for Value City, said, "I look to Cliff and his organization to help us re-energize our brand image, reassess our market position and help set the course for a more impactful future marketing effort. In years past, I've worked with Cliff Freeman and his team on numerous projects and his track record is second to none. Time and again, he has proven to be an enormously creative resource for brands facing tough marketing situations."
Value City and Filene's brands have been handled in-house; SBC Advertising of Westerville, Ohio had DSW on a project basis.
Media duties are as yet undetermined, sources said.
Billings were undisclosed but Value City spent approximately $50 million in measured media combined on its brands. Value City is the second win for Cliff Freeman this year. The agency has also won Working Today, a New York-based non-profit organziation that provides health benefits to independent workers.
The New York agency pitched with the business with Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based Zimmerman & Partners, sources said.
