A Campbell spokesman could not confirm the review at presstime. But sources said the review began recently, and is expected to be decided later this month or in early June.
Doner has had the account for 29 years, from the time before Campbell acquired the company. Doner’s Southfield, Mich. office had the business, but when Campbell’s moved the division’s operations from Farmington Hills, Mich. to Camden, N.J. last year, Doner moved most of the account services to its Baltimore office, which is almost as close to Camden as is New York City.
Doner has been helped by its ties to Robert Vlasic, who is chairman of the food giant. And the agency has been trying to leverage the relationship for more account business from the Campbell Soup family. Last year, Doner won a creative assignment for Pepperidge Farm gravies, an account which officially is still at Ogilvy & Mather/N.Y. which is also the agency of record for other Pepperidge Farm products. O&M is not a contender for Vlasic, nor is it in the running for a corporate soup assignment, which is also in review. Soups are now split between BBDO and Backer Spielvogel Bates, which are pitching for the additional assignment.
FCB/N.Y. handles Prego, V-8 and Juice Works.
