After just three weeks on the job, executive creative director Pat Burnham has left Publicis/Bloom here to return to North Carolina.
Co-chairman Seth Werner, who hired the well-known former Fallon McElligott creative chief, said Burnham cited only personal reasons for his departure.
Burnham could not be reached to comment on his exit or his future. Two weeks ago, however, he dismissed rumors he was leaving the shop.
Werner denied that any clash emerged from mapping out their respective roles in the creative department.
"I know you guys always need to find an angle on these things, but that is not what's happened here," Werner told Adweek.
"I would say it was as amicable as possible," added Werner. "I like Pat a lot and it's too bad."
Werner will resume the executive creative director's duties he earlier relinquished to Burnham. He was noncommittal on whether the Dallas agency will bring in a replacement for Burnham.
"We're still looking for talent, and I'm still looking to improve our creative product all the time," he said. "If I find another [executive creative director] who can do that, that's a possibility."
Burnham's involvement in Publicis/Bloom was minimal due to his brief stay, according to Werner. One reason for his hiring was to free up Werner for a broader role in setting the strategic direction of the agency alongside co-chairman Steve Price.
In a release issued at the time he was hired, the agency said Burn-ham's addition was an indication of a "new direction" for the shop.
The only apparent change instigated before Burnham's exit, however, was the introduction of a more stringent dress code for agency employees.
Burnham has returned to his home in Raleigh, N.C., where he had been executive creative director of McKinney & Silver for two years. He resigned his position there in May.
