NEW YORK — Broadband usage accounted for more than half of all time spent online in January, out-pacing narrowband usage for the first time.

According to the Nielsen/NetRatings, broadband surfers logged 1.19 billion hours in January, comprising 51 percent of the 2.3 billion hours spent online. That represents a 64 percent improvement over the same time a year ago when broadband users logged 727 million hours, accounting for only 38 percent of the total time spent online.
