Unilever Lowers ’03 Estimates for Top Brands

Packaged-goods company Unilever has scaled back its 2003 growth target for leading brands to less than 3 percent. But last week the Anglo-Dutch company reaffirmed guidance to investors that it will achieve low double-digit growth in earnings per share for the year.

Wal-Mart Expects 3-5% October Gain

October same-store sales are likely to remain on track for a 3-5 percent gain, Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart said last week. Earlier, the retailer said sales could be affected by stronger-than-expected demand for seasonal purchases because of unusually cool temperatures, which helped boost sales to 5.6
