NEW YORK Bartle Bogle Hegarty has opened an office in Shanghai, China. The agency began the arduous process of obtaining government approval to do so in late 2005.

Around the same time, BBH hired former Wieden + Kennedy Toyko managing director Arto Hampartsoumian to lead its Chinese operations as CEO.

Shanghai becomes BBH’s sixth office worldwide.

BBH China launches with a staff of 18 and four clients: Bose, Diageo, Mentos and the World Gold Council. Some of those clients are shared with other agency offices, including London and New York.
