ATLANTA Two spots from Crispin Porter + Bogusky are running on adcritic.com to promote the Advertising Club's 2004 Andy Awards.

The ads, created by CP+B executive creative director and 2004 Andy Awards honorary chairman Alex Bogusky, features an actor playing Eric Silver, now executive vice president and group creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi in New York. Silver is portrayed as a homeless has-been, wandering the streets of New York still laughing over the 1998 "gerbil spot" he created for Outpost.com while at Cliff Freeman and Partners.

Silver shied away from playing himself in the spot, which ends with a close-up of his tombstone, said Bogusky. He also balked at appearing in "Pinkie," in which a smitten creative director's lust [for an attractive intern] causes him to lose a finger.

Bogusky said he chose the site because creative staffers cruise it during work hours. "It's a great medium for creatives," he said. "Within five minutes everyone in the industry sees it."

The spots tie in with new trophies Bogusky created for the 2004 competition. All Andy winners will receive "championship" rings, hefty square chunks of metal the size of a pinkie. The two Grandy Award-winning rings will be "biggie sized" for the top art director and copywriter. Grandy winners will also lug home prize tombstone trophies, in addition to $50,000.

"We wanted something as cool as One Show Pencils, but that you could wear," Bogusky said. "It came from asking ourselves why one show is more important than another. One part is the trophies and the other is how much fame the show generates for the person [winning.]"

Andy entries totaled 6,500 last year. Bogusky hopes the ad campaign and the trophies will spur 2004 submissions, which are due Nov. 14.

Havas' Arnold in Boston won last year's top prize for its Volkswagen work.
