SAN FRANCISCO AKQA has hired Martin Cedergren as executive creative director of its newly launched office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The San Francisco-based digital agency opened an outpost in Shanghai last November and also has offices in London, New York and Washington, D.C.
"Based on our success recruiting ecd Lars Bastholm to open our New York office, we were able to recruit another top creative talent to launch our newest office," said CEO Tom Bedecarre.
Cedergren previously was creative director at Forsman & Bodenfors, a leading creative ad agency in Sweden, for the past 15 years. "Martin turned down many suitors to join the AKQA creative council, the elite group of AKQA ecds from around the globe," Bedecarre said.
Cedergren, 32, has worked on Adidas, Ikea, MTV, Nokia, Volvo and Yahoo!, and has served as a juror at the Cannes Lions, Clio Awards and London International Advertising Awards. His honors include the Grand Prix and four gold Lions at Cannes.
The AKQA Amsterdam office will serve global clients Diageo, Nike and Unilever, as well as pursue new European clients.
The agency sold a majority stake to private equity firm General Atlantic in February for an estimated $200-250 million. It is seeking to expand both organically and through acquisitions and partnerships, per sources.
