SOUTHEAST ALABAMA Jackhammer in Birmingham has secured the advertising account of Molten, Allen & Williams, a 100-year-old mortgage banking company, which is also headquartered in Birmingham. FLORIDA James Barr, a co-founder of Peak Barr Petralia Biety in Tampa, has opened a production company called Barr/Welch in St. Petersburg, and an advertising agency called Barr/Associates in Tampa. Separately, jane, a documentary created by the production company about the results of drunk driving, has been selected to air on more than 84 Public Broadcasting System stations. Icon Promotional Marketing in Clearwater was recently designated as a "preferred provider" by the Cadillac Motor Car Division of General Motors. The agency specializes in event marketing and direct marketing promotions. Firestone & Cimring Advertising in Fort Myers has added five new accounts to its roster: Val Ward Cadillac/Oldsmobile and Pre-Owned, all East Coast Shell-ETD stations, Coralwood Mall, Noah's Ark and Mallie Montgomery Boutique. Fitzgerald Communications in Orlando was designated agency of record by Alcatel Telecommunications Cable. The client manufactures premium fiber optic cable products for exterior plant and indoor environments. Advertising materials created for Silver Springs by Orlando-based Merkel & Adler received a first-place award from the International Association of Amuse-ment Parks & Attractions, as well as two silver Addys. The Imperial Tombs of China invitation created by Magic Pencil Studios in Orlando was selected by the 1997 American Graphic Design Awards. GEORGIA Ames Scullin O'Haire in Atlanta was appointed to handle the account of Trutona International, also based in Atlanta. The client manufactures and markets a line of feminine hygiene and personal care products that are completely biodegradable. For the fourth consecutive year, Atlanta agency Bressler & Yauger was named to represent Hands On Atlanta. The shop works with the volunteer event on a pro bono basis. InterActive Research in Atlanta has acquired Project Research of Minneapolis. The deal is the first in a series by InterActive Research, with the eventual objective of establishing a top 50 national marketing information organization by the end of 1998. Golin/Harris Communications in Atlanta was selected to execute a nationwide media relations campaign for Hooper's Hooch, an alcoholic lemonade-style drink made and distributed by Bass Beers Americas. The agency will work in existing markets and help open new sales territories for the beverage. MARYLAND Strategic Communications Group in Silver Spring reported it has acquired Applied Business Systems, an association and accounting software reseller located in Bethesda. The agency's first assignment will center on developing a direct mail campaign for its new client. Enten & Associates in Rockville has donated its creative services to the National Audubon Society. The agency will develop a national print advertising campaign on behalf of the National Wildlife Refuge System. NORTH CAROLINA Richard French & Associates in Raleigh has added three new accounts to its client roster. The agency has been selected to handle the trade launch, consumer public relations and marketing for George & Martha, a New York-based line of branded apparel. The shop also secured another apparel client, Kikomo, plus the travel and tourism business of Old Salem in North Carolina. SOUTH CAROLINA The Gillespie Agency in Columbia was awarded advertising and marketing responsibilities for BellSouth Mobility's DCS. The client, which is South Carolina's exclusive digital mobile communications provider, serves consumers in the Carolinas and parts of Tennessee. VIRGINIA The Meridian Group-Marketing Communi-cations in Virginia Beach was named agency of record for Hawk's Cay Resort in Duck Key, Fla. Real estate developer Goodman Segar Hogan Hoffler in Norfolk, Va., and The Redmont Hotel, a Holiday Inn property in Birmingham, Ala., also signed with Meridian. Opus Event Marketing in Richmond was enlisted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to serve as a promotional consultant. The agency will develop programs in partnerships for the men's and women's NCAA Division 1 Soccer Championships. AIM Interactive Marketing has opened its doors in Arlington. The company specializes in creative projects for clients on the World Wide Web. Cactus Advertising Associates in Chantilly was contracted to represent Comstock Homes, a residential builder in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The agency secured the business without a review. Diamondback Bicycles, which manufactures performance bikes, has awarded work to Martin Public Relations in Richmond. The agency will implement a national media relations program for the client, with emphasis on Diamondback's new line of MountainCruisers, which will be available next year. WASHINGTON, D.C. Advanced Laser Graphics in Georgetown has become Universal Communications Inc.
