CONNECTICUT Riley & Co. in Middletown has been retained by electrical products supplier Ideal Industries in Chicago to develop materials for its distributor programs. MAINE VIA Inc., a strategic communications firm in Portland, has absorbed the applications development arm of New England Internet Services to bolster its online offerings. NEIS president Tim Brooks becomes VIA's director of Internet technology and brings about 10 people with him. VIA works for a mix of consumer and technology clients, including the American Skiing Co., USA Networks and Fairchild Semiconductor. NEIS has developed applications for Hannaford Bros., Unum, Seafax and G.H. Bass. DW Group in Portland has been hired by BroadcastMusic.com, also in Portland. The agency will create radio ads for the Internet broadcasting company that will run on stations across the country. MASSACHUSETTS Big Blue Dot in Watertown has launched a repositioning campaign for Canadian broadcast concern YTV. "Weird" is the new watchword at the kids' network. "We felt that one of YTV's greatest assets is its weirdness. So we decided to position YTV as the 'weird network,' backing it up with the weirdest promos," said Scott Nash, creative director at Big Blue Dot. LNS Communications in Cambridge has been selected by Alpha Processor in Concord for public relations services. The client, a unit of Samsung, develops 64-bit microprocessors and related technology. FairMarket in Woburn has tapped LNS to tout its outsourced, customized online auction services. ThinWeb.com in Ottawa will work with LNS to promote its e-business software. Eymer Design in Boston has completed a branding assignment for the newly formed Application Service Provider Industry Consortium, which includes AT&T, Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer, GTE, IBM and 20 others. Eymer designed a logo, stationery system and Web site (www.aspindustry.org). Harpell/Martins & Co. in Maynard has been chosen by software provider Data Viz, Trumbull, Conn., for a consumer advertising push that will break this fall in general interest magazines such as Rolling Stone as well as computer-oriented publications. Media placement will be handled in-house. Data Viz products allow users to share information between different software programs and platforms. Philip Johnson Associates in Cambridge has been named the first agency of record for computer security products provider CyberTrust in Needham, a unit of GTE. Brodeur Worldwide in Boston has been tapped for public relations services by Avnet in Phoenix, a global distributor of electronics and computer components. SGM & Co. in Norwell has been retained by Anatolia College in Thessalon'ki, Greece, for advertising and public relations. Nicoll Public Relations, Norwood, has been hired by KnowledgeLink, Westlake Village, Calif., to handle all publicity for the company and its e-commerce site, which features home entertainment systems. Warner Communications, Manchester, has been tapped by Vitasoy USA, San Francisco, for brand-building public relations efforts. The client is a provider of soy-based foods and beverages, including brands such as Vegi-Burger, NewMenu and TofuMate.
