LOS ANGELES The battle for the creative and media business of Starbucks Coffee has come down to Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York and Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., sources said. Estimated billings are $20 million.
Neither of the agencies was on the original list of contenders, which included independents davidandgoliath in Los Angeles and Modernista! in Boston; Interpublic Group's Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis; Omnicom Group's BBDO in Chicago and Merkley + Partners in New York; and Publicis Groupe's Publicis in Seattle [Adweek, Jan. 19].
Both the Seattle-based client and consultants with the Mercer Island Group, which is running the review, declined comment.
Starbucks' search began last fall when LB Works in Chicago was folded back into Publicis' Leo Burnett, creating a conflict with Burnett client McDonald's.
