No need to look in the business section of The New York Times to catch a mention of Saatchi & Saatchi.
Just turn to the arts section, or specifically the page that features the crossword puzzle.
In a puzzle last week, "Award for Saatchi & Saatchi" was the clue for a four-letter word that turned out to be, "Clio." And, in a February 1997 puzzle, "admen" was the five-letter answer to the clue: "Saatchi & Saatchi employees."
The agency's North American chairwoman, Jennifer Laing, had "not a clue" why Saatchi had been featured twice in less than two years. "Isn't that brilliant? It's fantastic," Laing said.
As it turns out, Saatchi was the second choice for last Tuesday's clue, crossword editor Will Shortz said.
"Until the very last minute I had Chiat/Day. That was a nice short one--good for a crossword clue," Shortz said.
"But then I had in the back of my mind that they're no longer an independent agency So at the last minute, I changed it to Saatchi," he continued. "Maybe next time, I'll use Y&R or someone else instead." --Andrew McMains
