$100 Mil. H&R Block in Play

LOS ANGELES H&R Block has launched a review of its $100 million integrated brand marketing account, according to Select Resources International. No information on a timetable was immediately available.

According to the Santa Monica, Calif., search consultant, the Kansas City, Mo.-based client is seeking a "highly strategic and creative agency" for strategic and creative development, media planning and buying and interactive marketing.

Interpublic Group's Campbell Mithun, Minneapolis, has been the incumbent since 2000, according to SRI. The agency has been invited to defend.

"Because the tax category is changing dramatically both in retail and digital businesses we want to explore new approaches and encourage fresh, innovative thinking," said Kathy Collins, H&R Block vice president, marketing communications and brand management, in a statement. "The timing is right to explore our options now, as we'll soon begin planning for the 2007 tax season."

SRI said IPG's Mullen, Wenham, Mass., which has been on the H&R roster, will be invited to participate. Neither H&R's Hispanic shop, Cruz-Kravetz, Los Angeles, nor its Canadian agency, Due North, Toronto, will be affected by the review, per SRI.

The company spent $100 million in measured media in 2004 and more than $100 million through November 2005, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
