Walgreens is reviewing its media planning and buying business, sources said.
The retailer spent more than $203 million in media two years ago and nearly $190 million in the first nine months of last year, according to Nielsen. Those figures don't include online spending.
R3:JLB in Chicago is managing the search process and the incumbent, Publicis Groupe's Starcom, has been invited to defend, sources said.
The media search comes a year after Walgreens reviewed its creative account. After last year's search, GSD&M emerged as the brand's new lead creative agency.
The brand's current campaign uses the tagline, "At the corner of happy and healthy."
R3:JLB declined to comment and Walgreens could not immediately be reached.
