Tribal DDB has acquired the flagship U.S. Air Force account and employees of interactive agency SixtyFootSpider’s faltering local office.

The gain of about 30 new employees brings Tribal DDB to the fore of Dallas’ interactive shops in terms of staff. With 69 employees, Tribal DDB squeezes past the market’s other large shop, Slingshot, which has 65 staff members.

SixtyFootSpider also adds the U.S. Air Force account to Tribal DDB’s roster. The assignment includes design and maintenance of USAF recruitment, ROTC and Air Force Academy Web sites.

Earlier this year, SixtyFootSpider looked like it would cease operations with sister agency Bozell Kamstra in Irving, Texas, after that shop lost its $40 million Air Force contract in a review.

Executives said both shops would close down by the end of the year, with remaining interactive accounts transferred to SixtyFootSpider’s headquarters facility in Minneapolis.
