NEW YORK–Texaco is close to moving its $35-40 million retail and product ad account to BBDO from Bates USA, according to sources.

Bates’ New York office handles creative development on the Texaco account, while its Houston outpost services the business.

BBDO in New York won Texaco’s $20-25 million corporate branding account in January and will break a new campaign around Labor Day with the tagline, ‘The world runs on Texaco.’ BBDO won that assignment following a review in which Bates participated.

Sources said BBDO and Texaco have yet to iron out details including where the account will be housed.
