The New York office of TBWA\Chiat\Day is welcoming back two former executives in top management roles.

Stephanie Retcho, a group managing director at Interpublic Group's McCann Erickson in New York, is rejoining Omnicom Group's TBWA\C\D as managing director, and Carla Serrano, president of WPP Group's Berlin Cameron United in New York, is returning as chief strategy officer.

Retcho, 40, had spent more than two years at McCann, working on key client Verizon. Before that, she was an executive group director on Sprint Nextel at TBWA\C\D N.Y.

Serrano, 39, worked at TBWA\C\D N.Y. as a group planning director in 2000-03, when she left for Berlin, initially to become director of planning. She rose to president/chief strategy officer in 2008.

In her new role, Serrano will oversee brand planning, digital strategy, communications planning and analytics, said agency president Jamie Gallo.

Retcho, meanwhile, will lead account management and focus on existing clients. Each starts next month and reports to Gallo.

The office, which employs about 200 staffers and whose key clients include Mars, Absolut and Beiersdorf (Nivea), now has several leaders, including chairman/chief creative officer Mark Figliulo, Gallo and Retcho. Beyond the cluster of top titles, however, it's all about collecting talent, according to Gallo.

"It takes a village and I think what we have is a lot of strength across the board," Gallo said. "We want to be a much bigger and better agency. That's what these hires signify."

In addition, the shop has promoted deputy director of strategy Jonathan Lee to planning director. Lee, now in his second tour at the agency, has worked there since 2005.

In his new position, Lee, 40, will report to Serrano, as will executive digital director Devrin Carlson-Smith. Carlson-Smith, 40, joined the agency in January from Droga5 in New York.
