CHICAGO Kellogg Co. said it has retained Starcom to handle media buying chores on its U.S. advertising account. Estimated billings exceed $500 million.

The Publicis Groupe unit, which already handles media planning, competed against Aegis Group’s Carat and WPP Group’s MindShare, both in New York and also client roster agencies, for the assignment.

“Periodically we look at all aspects of our business—including relationships with our advertising agencies and other partners—as part of our integrated marketing approach,” said Andrew Jung, senior director of advertising and media at the Battle Creek, Mich.,
