Prodigy Communications, an Internet service provider with 2.8 million subscribers, has awarded its estimated $15-20 million advertising account to GSD&M, Austin, Texas. No review was held.
Prodigy, also of Austin, has been without an agency since parting ways late last year with TBWA\Chiat\Day in New York.
Last year GSD&M client SBC Communications, the San Antonio-based telecommunications company, took a 40 percent interest in Prodigy after combining its 700,000 consumer and small-business subscribers with Prodigy's, but that deal "didn't really drive the process" of selecting an agency, said GSD&M spokesman Eric Webber.
Although Prodigy invested a modest $8 million in advertising last year, it is expected to double spending when it launches an aggressive new campaign later this year, sources said.
