NEW YORK -- Novell has selected J. Walter Thompson in New York to handle its estimated $30 million account, a client representative confirmed, after a prolonged review that was nearly scuttled.
According to sources, the other finalists were Mullen in Wenham, Mass; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston; and the incumbent, SicolaMartin of Austin, Texas, which tapped into the resources of sister shop Young & Rubicam in New York.
The account is said to include both creative and media duties. Pitches took place at the client's Cambridge, Mass. office in early August. Since then, Novell has requested follow-up information from several shops, according to sources.
But in recent weeks, the process appeared to have ground to a halt, while the network software provider planned for its next budget year, which begins Nov. 1 (Adweek, Sept. 23).
