CHICAGO The Illinois Department of Commerce Economic Opportunity is set to award the state’s $12 million tourism account to J. Walter Thompson’s office here, according to sources.

The shop bested Euro RSCG Tatham Partners and Young & Rubicam, both Chicago, for the business after a five-month review. The Chicago incumbent on the account, BBDO, opted not to participate in the review.

JWT officials referred calls to the client. DECO officials declined comment. Boston consultancy Pile and Co.
