Interpublic Group’s Reprise Media is beefing up its U.S. executive ranks with the appointment of John Anagnost as president, a new position at the agency.
The new appointment comes as Reprise is being repositioned as a full-service global digital marketing shop. Founded as a domestic search specialist, the shop was acquired by IPG five years ago.
Last September, IPG veteran Bant Breen was tapped as global CEO to oversee the shop’s expansion and repositioning.
For Anagnost, who will report to Breen, the move is a return to the agency fold after a stint at Bloomberg, where he was head of audience marketing for Bloomberg.com and sibling Web site Businessweek.com.
Previously, Anagnost was global director of search marketing services for WPP’s Neo@Ogilvy. Earlier, he held positions at Modem Media and Digitas.
Anagnost said he would spend a lot of time in his new role sharpening the agency’s existing tools (and developing new ones) that focus on consumer use of digital media and how it impacts their interactions with marketing and brands.
“The opportunity has never been greater for marketers to gain insights into how customers use the Web and mobile to search for content and reach out to friends through social channels in support of a purchase decision,” Anagnost said.
Reprise is housed within Mediabrands Ventures, IPG’s diversified media services division that is headed by CEO Matt Freeman. Other shops within the division include hyper-local marketing agency Geomentum, new media investment unit Velociter and retail operation Shopper Sciences.
