Horizon Media Ends Year With a BK Bang

Horizon Media's Burger King win comes at the end of another solid year for the independent media agency.

BK, which chose Horizon after a review, spends an estimated $250 million in media annually, and as such, becomes one of the shop's largest clients (others include Geico insurance and Corona beer).

Other wins for the agency this year include Vonage, Sleepy's, Fruit of the Loom, J. Crew and Edible Arrangements, while losses were limited to Ace Hardware and planning responsibilities on Mondelez' confectionery brands. Revenue at the shop grew about 15 percent to an estimated $200 million.

Horizon becomes BK's third media agency since mid-2011, after Mindshare and more recently, Starcom. The fast-food chain also has experienced churn on the creative side, shifting from Crispin Porter + Bogusky to mcgarrybowen and then Mother, all in the same time frame.

In a statement about awarding Horizon its media business, BK chief marketing officer Eric Hirschhorn cited the agency's "clear and compelling vision for driving growth for the Burger King brand." The other finalists for the business were not disclosed.
