NEW YORK ESPN Deportes Radio, which is broadcast on 16 AM stations in markets across the country, this week signed an agreement with Sirius Satellite Radio to carry the 24-hour Spanish-language sports network.
The move enables ESPN Deportes Radio, which launched in September, to be heard nationwide.
"This [agreement] will benefit both parties by giving ESPN Deportes Radio immediate national distribution and giving Sirius the opportunity to tap into the growing Hispanic market via ESPN Deportes," said Traug Keller, svp of Bristol, Conn.-based ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio, in a statement.
The addition of ESPN Deportes Radio expands Sirius' Spanish-language programming, which already includes NFL Futbol Americano, CBS Radio Sports and Westwood One's 31-game Spanish-language package of National Football League games; EWTN Radio Catolica Mundial; BBC Mundo; and several commercial-free Latino and international music channels.
Listeners will need to subscribe to Sirius for approximately $12.95 per month, plus purchase a Sirius Satellite Radio unit to receive the programming.
