Dan Fietsam, the chief creative officer of Energy BBDO, is joining FCB Chicago as evp, executive creative director, reporting to Chief Creative Officer Todd Tilford, who oversees the office’s 120-member creative department.
Fietsam replaces Jon Flannery, who has been named CCO of FCB Toronto and takes over from Robin Heisey, who is leaving the agency.
Fietsam was CCO at Energy BBDO for nearly six years and earlier in his career worked at DDB, Leo Burnett, Ogilvy, Y&R and Publicis. Among the brands he’s associated with are Wrigley, PepsiCo, T-Mobile, Jim Beam and Anheuser-Busch. Fietsam is known for work like the “Swear Jar” viral ad for Bud Light which won an Emmy in 2008. He joins FCB on July 14.
Flannery, who was behind the hugely popular FCB viral work for Kmart, assumes his new Toronto role on Aug. 11. He worked at Leo Burnett and Element 79 in Chicago before returning to FCB, then known as Draftfcb, in 2009 and was named ecd in January 2013. In addition to Kmart, Flannery has been involved with Dow, Cox and the NHL and helped with FCB new-business wins like Choose Chicago, Fleetmatics, Aramark and Verisign.
In an internal note distributed to the agency, FCB Chicago chief Michael Fassnacht and Tilford explained the changes to staffers: “Jon has long wanted to take the creative reins of an agency and we’re happy he is being given the chance to do just that within our network. … Dan’s passion is sure to be contagious, as are his energy and commitment to great content creation.”
