Chrysler Seeks Court Ruling on Jeep

RIO DE JANEIRO - Chrysler Corp. is challenging Autolatina (a corporation jointly owned by Ford and Volkswagen) for the right to use the Jeep brand name in Brazil. Chrysler owns the rights to the Jeep trademark in the U.S. and other countries. Chrysler published ads in major Brazilian newspapers contending that Ford, as successor to the now-defunct Willys-Overland Co. (originator of the Jeep brand) had not used the Jeep name in the time prescribed for it by law and had thus lost its right to use it.
