Aegis Group’s acquisition of Australia’s independent media agency Mitchell Communication Group came a step closer to completion today as Mitchell shareholders approved the proposed $360 million purchase, with 99 percent of shares voted in favor of the deal.

If the acquisition goes through as expected in mid-November, Aegis would become the largest ad buyer in Australia, while the Mitchell family would become the second-largest shareholder in London-based Aegis Group with an estimated 5 percent stake.

The largest shareholder currently is the Bollore Group, controlled by French magnate Vincent Bollore, with a stake of nearly 30 percent.
