Mark Hunter this week became the fifth chief creative officer named to a major shop in the past five weeks when he signed on to lead the creative department of Deutsch/LA. His appointment followed those of Peter Nicholson at JWT; Lance Jensen at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos; Linus Karlsson at McCann Erickson; and Al Kelly at Euro RSCG. Each chief faces significant challenges in his new job, be they cultural, operational or client-related. And, of course, it will take months if not years to assess their performances.
