CHICAGO Five agencies will make presentations in two weeks for the creative portion of Midas' $40 million account, sources said.
Competing are Omnicom's DDB and WPP Group's Young & Rubicam, both in Chicago; Interpublic Group's Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis and Chicago; independent Doner in Southfield, Mich., and Moroch Leo Burnett USA in Dallas, sources said. Publicis Gorupe's Leo Burnett has a minority stake in Moroch but is not involved in the review.
The Kaplan Thaler Group in New York was also involved the review, but dropped out last week, citing workload.
Incumbent Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, was invited to defend the business but dropped out of the competition, saying it no longer wanted to commit to keeping an office in Chicago near the client.
Presentations from the five shops are set for the week of June 9.
Carat in New York continues to handle media.
Agency officials either declined comment or referred calls to the Itasca, Ill.-based client. A Midas representative could not immediately be reached.
