The lights went out in the third quarter at the Louisiana Superdome on Sunday night, but the advertising waited until the fourth to get its power surge.

That's when the Budweiser, Samsung and RAM spots aired—three high points on a night when the more lavish and flashy blockbuster ads generally underwhelmed. Bud and RAM proved once again that Super Bowl viewers often crave something quieter and more heartfelt amid the pomp and circumstance. And the Samsung ad, for sheer entertainment value, represented the night's comedic high point.
