Before this writer started working in the ad/design world, thinking about branding was very, very low on the list of things to ponder. Because you see a brand and you think, “Okay, there’s that name. Means nothing to me. Stupid even.” Because, really, 90% of the time, you can’t connect with the name and the design follows whatever that original train of thought was. In a lot of cases, you really do assume some guy, probably the founder, just came in on the first day and said, “Hey, what does everybody think of…?” and everyone just agreed and at some point, some guy in marketing made a couple of squiggles and that became the logo.
